Hello! I'm Sharen Mak. I am currently working as a story coordinator / jr. story editor, but if I'm not doing that, I'm probably snowboarding, doing a DIY project, gardening, camping, or playing the ukelele.

These are some films I've made, they range from documentary to narrative, experimental, and animation. I love telling stories and enjoy finding new ways to tell them!

reconnect

reconnect is a short animated film that tells the story of a woman in Edmonton, AB who is looking for her first love through a simple phone call. The woman, Deb, discusses her search for her first love, Marshall, and while doing so she also reminisces on her past, and all the things she could have done, should have done, and did not do.

Fer Da Boys

Using DragonFrame, over 4500 frames were shot over the span of a weekend. Countless hours before the shoot were spent printing and cutting each image. This short animation was inspired by the current dominant party culture seen on many university campuses.

Nuts at Queen's

This short documentary film explores the squirrel phenomenon at Queen's University. This project was the first film I was able to direct/film/edit independently, it was also the first time I was able to work with Adobe AfterEffects.

The Trip

The Trip is an experimental film made with 16mm film. Each frame was scratched by hand and a variety of paints and inks were used as well. Due to the fragile nature of the project, the film reel was unfortunately only able to play the film once, luckily, I was able to film the class screening.

Photography

In my spare time I like to dabble in photography, I love being outside and enjoy taking pictures of landscapes and portaits of animals. I've also done some product photography.

Print

I am familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator. I often use it to design various prints and images. Click on any of the images to enlarge.

This was a class assignment. The goal was to create 'fake news'. I was inspired by the Toronto Raptors' collaboration with McDonald's, "Beyond the Arch".

These are a set of thank you cards I created for Davan Designs using Adobe InDesign. The images on the face of the card were paintings I created while living in Banff, Alberta.

I also enjoy making custom cards from time to time, this is a Valentine's themed card I made of my one of my boss' dog, Mercy.

Resume

I graduated from Queen's University in 2020 where I majored in film and media. Since then, I've worked in the film and television industry in Toronto. I'm familiar with both the production department and the story department. I am currently a member of IATSE 411. Below are some of the shows and films that I've had a chance to be a part of.
